The Fashion Renaissance of Professional Basketball Players
In the NBA & WNBA, players are breaking boundaries between basketball and style, and redefining the modern athlete in the process
The night of April 15th, 2024, in Brooklyn, New York was a big day in women’s basketball. It was the night of the WNBA Draft, and more than ever in the league’s history there was a buzz around the event. This draft class promised to be one of the best with players like Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, Cameron Brink, and Rickea Jackson entering the league. The excitement was around basketball and this night was the culmination, a celebration of the growth of women’s basketball.
What stole the show, however, was what the players were wearing. Caitlin Clark was decked out in Prada, Angel Reese was in a Bronx and Banco gown, Cameron Brink wore a Balmain cutout dress that garnered a lot of headlines. The Barclays Center for a moment felt like a fashion runway in Milan or Paris, indicative of the way that basketball players in both the WNBA and NBA have become known for their fashion sense off the court as well as their skill on the court.
