The Fascinating Yet Uncertain Future of Julius Randle

The Knicks enter a new season with their best chance to win a title, but how does their All-Star power forward fit into the equation?

The 2024–25 season will mark Julius Randle’s sixth season as a New York Knick. The team has changed a lot since he signed in 2019, and Randle as a player has changed a lot since then as well. Randle came to New York when no other player wanted to, saying that he wanted the pressure and welcomed the challenge of rehabilitating a franchise that had lost its way.

Fast forward to today, and the story is much different. The Knicks have gone from a laughing stock to a championship contender and have acquired Mikal Bridges to form one of the deepest rotations in the league alongside Randle, Jalen Brunson, OG Anunoby, Josh Hart, and Donte DiVincenzo. There is legitimate excitement about the Knicks but in the wake of Randle’s shoulder surgery that sidelined him last year, many have questioned whether he fits in with the latest iteration of the team. Randle has been productive here, yet it seems that many want him gone for the sake of perceived fit. So, we are left to wonder, what does the future hold for Julius Randle?
