The Dual-Screen Laptop is the Disruptor that Computer Hardware Desperately Needs
Versatility, portability, and the wonderful weirdness of a form factor will define the next evolution of the PC
Since it was introduced as a concept in the 1980s, the laptop has more or less used a similar formula when it comes to design and input. It is a clamshell device with a keyboard and trackpad (or other pointing device) on the bottom half and a screen on the top half. The odd thing about the laptop is that we have seen a few attempts at reimagination, but most of those seem to involve the display portion while the bottom half has mostly been left alone.
We have seen the touchscreen introduced. We have seen 2-in-1 hinge designs to make laptops more like tablets. We have even seen laptops with detachable screens, blurring the lines between tablet and laptop. But the keyboard and trackpad have mostly stayed the same with some cosmetic touches here and there. It would appear, however, that could be changing soon as we have started to see more dual-screen laptops emerge. These look nothing like a traditional laptop and could present a future filled with possibilities for the personal computer.
