The appeal and risk of bringing Collin Sexton to the Knicks

The NBA off-season is always a magical time. Hope springs eternal, teams and fan bases are envisioning what the future will entail. Teams that struggled the previous season will be looking forward to the NBA Draft and selling themselves on the potential next face of the franchise. Teams that were eliminated in the playoffs are looking at potential free agents that might take their team to the next level. This general sense of hope, however, does not seem to apply to Knicks fans.

Every off-season, regardless of how well or poorly the Knicks did one constant remains: every potential player on the market is at some point or another linked to the Knicks. This can be exhausting. The Knicks were eliminated by the Atlanta Hawks from the playoffs on June 2nd. Since then the following players have been linked or rumored to be targets of the team: Kyle Lowry, Lonzo Ball, Damian Lillard, Kelly Oubre Jr, Mike Conley, Kendrick Nunn, TJ McConnell, Chris Paul, and Eric Bledsoe to name a few. The cycle is never-ending, but it feels even more urgent this year since the team finally seems to have a foundation in place and the next move feels crucial. It is in this context that a new potential target has emerged, and that candidate is Cleveland guard Collin Sexton.
