RJ Barrett: Built For New York
The Knicks have been in search of their next star for years, perhaps he was here all along
There is an appeal to the homegrown superstar in the NBA. A player that is drafted by a team and then blossoms into a player that is known around the league. By the standards of the NBA, the New York Knicks have lacked this player for a very long time. Sure there was Carmelo Anthony, but he was acquired via trade and was already established as a superstar player in Denver.
The last one that the team has had was Patrick Ewing, who was drafted in 1985. Since Ewing left the Knicks in 2000, there have been many players that have tried to live up to this billing. The only one that has come close was Kristaps Porzingis in 2015, and Knick fans all know how that situation ended. It seemed that the Knicks would never be able to draft that player that can develop and flourish in New York City, a market that can instantly turn on a young player after a few bad games. But it seems that the Knicks might have finally found their homegrown star: RJ Barrett.
