There comes a time when the mold needs to be reshaped. When the old way of doing things no longer seems to be working, and a fresh new approach needs to be instilled as the new standard. Oftentimes these moments are met with resistance and a fondness for the old ways. We saw this over the last decade as it became clear that social media influencer marketing was effective and has now brought about countless influencers and a focus on utilizing social media tools by brands.

In the world of sports journalism and reporting it seems that the path has…

What is in a name? Specifically, what is in a product name? It seems pretty simple and arbitrary, but quite often the name of a product can make or break a product that is launching. In tech, there are a few notable product names that have come to market, making you wonder what the people behind these decisions were thinking. Some classic examples are the Casio G’zOne, the Eee PC, and the TrekStor iBeat Blaxx. These products were not successful, and while it was not solely because of poor naming schemes it sure didn’t help the case for these devices.

I’m a Palestinian-American. Many people know their heritage but few get the privilege of being able to visit where they came from. I was one of the few that got to see the place where my ancestors lived. This happened when I was a kid, 10 years old to be exact. But like all things when it comes to Palestine, there was some complexity to this trip.

As both a Palestinian and an American citizen, I could see the Palestinian and Israeli realities in the region. This experience was a true twilight zone. Where the Palestinian side was laced with…

When Apple announced the iPhone 12 series with its MagSafe accessories, I felt the writing on the wall. For years, there seemed to be a growing thought that Apple would create an iPhone with no ports. The introduction of MagSafe seemed to solve the last remaining hurdle to this reality by offering a new way to charge to replace plugging in a lightning cord. …

One of the product segments of consumer technology that has interested me the most over the last couple of years has been truly wireless earbuds. The category has exploded ever since Apple first introduced its AirPods in 2016. The introduction of AirPods gave a de facto green light to every tech company that is even adjacent to audio to start making their similar solution. This has led phone manufacturers (Google, Samsung, LG), headphone makers (Sony, Jabra), and even home audio companies (Master & Dynamics, Bang & Olufsen) to try their hand at wireless audio solutions.

This onslaught of product releases…

It is no secret that I love my gadgets and tech in general. I have always loved the unboxing experience of a new phone, smartwatch, or laptop. There is an excitement of cutting the tape, lifting the box, and unearthing a new device from its plastic wrapping that will be your companion for the months and perhaps years to come. A certain euphoria comes with this experience, and companies have taken steps to make sure that the unboxing experience feels more luxurious for the user. …

When I was a teenager, I worked at a video store (remember those?). Every Tuesday, we would get a shipment of the new releases that would adorn the shelves that weekend. I tended to look over these titles to see if there was a movie that interested me so that I could make a mental note to rent it. One day, I came across a movie that had two actors that I recognized: Matthew McConaughey and Al Pacino. I was intrigued. The movie was called “Two For The Money”. …

Since a very young age, I have been a basketball fan. I fell in love with the game in the 90s while growing up in New York City. The skill of players like Patrick Ewing and Michael Jordan created an instant love affair with the sport that has stuck with me my entire life. A reality of basketball, specifically at the professional level, is that the last place you want to be is in the middle. …

Quite often I think a lot about tech from my childhood. How those devices paved the way for the tech that I enjoy today. By extension, this creates a fondness for certain brands and hoping to see future success by those brands. One of the devices from my childhood that I have incredibly fond memories of is the Super Nintendo game console. Hours of playing Super Mario World made me a fan of the console and a fan of Nintendo as a company on the whole.

As someone that often thinks a lot about the future of tech and companies…

I grew up in New York City, but I have lived in the midwest for almost a few decades. When I tell people this in Detroit, they often ask me what the city is like. My default answer is usually the same: If you want to visit New York City, you should go twice. The first time to do all the tourist stuff: Go to Times Square, see the Statue of Liberty, etc. The second time you’ll experience the real magic of New York, as I call it. The vibrant food and art scenes and visiting the other boroughs outside…
